GMA Network’s rising actor Alden Richards celebrated his 22nd birthday with the kids of Holy Trinity Home for Children in Quezon City on Tuesday, January 14, 2014.

Alden Richards has been planning of reaching out to less fortunate kids since last year as a way of giving back for all the blessings he received in 2013.

As he turned 22 last January 2, the Kapuso actor did not throw a lavish party but instead, he coordinated with GMA Artist Center to make his plan to give to charity become a reality.

“Ngayon po, inarrange po ito ng Artist Center [GMA Artist Center], tapos lumaki, nagkaroon ng sponsors, tapos nandito na po kayo, hindi ko po inexpect na mangyayari,” he shared with the members of the press who attended the meaningful celebration last night.

With the help of his sponsors, Alden was able to bring food and gifts and throw a fun-filled party for the kids of Holy Trinity Home for Children. He even played with them and take photos with them.

Since he lost his mother several years ago, Alden developed a heart that sympathizes with orphaned children.

“As a kid they lack the perks other kids are enjoying. At an early age di nila nararanasan ang magkaroon ng magulang, wala silang magulang, so parang in a way para kahit papaano naman gusto ko naman makatulong at mabigyan sila kahit papaano ng panandaliang happiness,” he said.

It can be remembered that Alden treated his fans with a swimming party in Los Baños last December 26 and spent New Year’s Eve with other Kapuso stars at the GMA Countdown Party in SM Mall of Asia. And on his birthday last January 2, he went to church with his dad and siblings.

Meanwhile, the entertainment press took the opportunity to ask Alden about his new primetime series on GMA called “Carmela” where he is being paired with no less than the Primetime Queen Marian Rivera.

The young actor revealed that he is leaving the “boy next door” image in 2013 and reinventing himself this 2014 to become a more mature actor for the drama series.

“Nagresearch po ako ng mga Hollywood actors para maging peg ko sa role as Yago na medyo bad boy ng konti…nag-grow po ako ng facial hair tapos ngayon nagpapapayat po ako, going to the gym para sakto sa mga eksena,” he shared.

Alden also talked about his leading lady Marian Rivera.

“Talagang ‘pag binigyan siya ng isang project sobrang hands on. Nagresearch siya for the role kung ano ang magiging peg niya to handle a younger leading man, tapos yung acting, actions niya, nuances, itsura, tapos ‘yung pagbato niya ng linya iba na po e, so talagang nag-meet kami.”

“Through that, naging comfortable akong kaeksena siya para wala na ‘yung dating nasta-starstruck na lang ako,” he added.

Alden was grateful to Marian when learned that he was the Primetime Queen’s personal choice for a leading man.

“Sobra po ‘yung pagpapasalamat ko sa kanya, sabi ko Yan siguro sa tatlong taon ko sa showbiz ito na ang turning point ko, kasi ang laki pong bagay na nai-partner po ako sa kanya dito e, di na po yung ‘boy next door’ na patweetums-tweetums, leading man na po talaga,”

“Even po si Kuya Dong [Dingdong Dantes, Marian's BF] nung time pa ng ‘Beloved’ sabi niya ‘Alam mo Den, dapat bigyan ka ng project na kasama mo si Yan, malaking tulong sa ‘yo ‘yun.’ After one year, nangyari nga po,” he said.

Alden was told that he may have some kissing scenes and love scenes with Rivera in “Carmela.” Should Dingdong Dantes prepare for the said scenes?

“Wala pong ikababahala si Kuya Dong sa akin kasi ‘yung respeto ko po sa kanila ni ‘Yan, wala pong tutumbas dun,” he answered.

When told that he is set to become the next “King” of GMA after Dingdong Dantes, Alden has this to say:

“Naku di ko pa po matatanggap ‘yang line na ‘yan, di ko po iniisip ‘yan. Ang focus ko po, kailangan ko munang pagbutihin ang role ko sa Carmela.”

Marian Rivera is all set to deliver a powerful and compelling portrayal of the complex character of Carmela, a very beautiful woman who had gone through a lot in life. Fresh from the successful wrap up of his primetime teleserye “Carmela,” rising Kapuso actor Alden Richards talks about the new route that his career is about to take in the coming days.

Even before he bagged the highly-coveted role as Yago in the recently-concluded “Carmela: Ang Pinakamagandang Babae sa Balat ng Lupa” which we saw him being paired with no less than Marian Rivera, Alden Richards already received recognition from the horror movie “The Road.” This time we will see him on the big screen again with a promise that a different Alden will surprise, and even shock, his fans.

Here are excerpts from the interview with the actor in last Friday’s pocket blogcon sponsored by GMA Artist Center and was held at Mesa Restaurant in Tomas Morato, Quezon City:

On his upcoming movie ‘Cain at Abel’:

“Upon reading the title, we have this conception of purely creating the original ‘Cain at Abel’ but it’s not the same story from the original , siguro the way I observe it parang it’s a sequel e of the first one. It’s a totally different story, Aljur and I are not brothers here, they’re both different persons and the story is basically about betrayal, revenge, love, family, kumbaga how we conceptualize a bad boy, ganun siya may drugs, of course, different themes po e. Walang Cain at Abel na name dun sa story, pero ako po ‘yung bad boy dito.”

On how he attacked his role in the movie:

“The way direk Adolf would want me to do it, nabasa ko lang ‘yung sequence not the whole script then he’ll say ‘kakargahan lang kita when we shoot para hindi aral,’ which is good. I like the approach parang if there’s a scene, kunwari big scene ito, ‘yung scene na turning point ng movie of course as an actor kahit sabihin mong hindi mo pagpaplanuhan at some point pagpa-planuhan mo talaga ‘yan unconsciously so ako po hindi ko po talaga binasa ‘yung script, itatanong ko lang ‘Direk san galing, anong emotions po ang gusto niyo direk?’ Ganun lang.”

On the possibility of winning an award:

“Actually po, sabi ko kay direk Adolf, first may scenes po kami na ginagawa sabi ko direk pang-award ba? ‘Huwag mo munang isipin ‘yon, dadating yun’ so parang that hit me na ok never never do something for, kumbaga, do it for yourself not for the award. Gawin mo ‘yung trabaho mo for self fulfillment and also to satisfy the director. Of course, in a way, maganda rin to aim for an award pero ‘yun nga sabi ni Direk, it will come. So just do your best in every scene.”

On reinventing himself as a bad boy:

“I’ve never done a hard sell bad boy character before, si Yago kasi [Carmela] sa first part lang siya e then eventually naging family guy, naging defender, so nawala ‘yung character ng bad boy sa kanya pero ito all the way.”

On working with direk Adolf Alix, Jr.:

“Si Direk Adolf the way I see him direct is not like the other directors that I’ve worked with. Specially ‘yung mga akala ko kasi sometimes us when we act we really expect something na ‘o sige hindi ko muna ‘yan ibibigay kasi meron pang reverse shot siya wala na. We just take scenes na important kumbaga let’s say when I was doing a project with GMA, there is a scene for a movie and then we’ll reverse it tapos kukunin from the top. Si Direk Adolf hindi ganun e. He will take that scene, kukunin lang niya kung ano ‘yung important dun sa reverse, not to repeat anything.”

“Ang nagustuhan ko sa kanya ayaw niya ng kunot-noo acting kasi ‘yun daw ‘yung pinakamadaling excuse to act. When you move your facial muscles. Sabi ko oo nga ‘no so everything should be in the eyes lang.”

On the difference of working in an indie film from a teleserye:

“Sobrang layo sa TV, I mean although movie is similar to TV na commercialized and we’re aiming on mainstream din for Cain at Abel but we’re trying to create ‘yung ano, mas daring, mas out of the box na concept na indie film for mainstream. So we don’t know yet, we’ve shot a few scenes na medyo talaga for a few selected viewers lang talaga dahil hindi po siya talaga for everyone, for kids, pero we’ll see kung ano ang treatment ng pagkaka-edit niya.”

On several career firsts that he did for this movie:

“Ang dami kong firsts sa movie na ‘to. First love scene, first sexy scene…kapag inisip ko talaga very nervous ako ‘dun kasi it’s my first. Sa Carmela wala ring masyado, intimate scenes lang with Carmela ‘yung nagyari pero this one talaga, ‘yung love scene talaga, what we think about about love scene.

I’ve never done anything like it. In a way ‘pag napalabas ito, the scenes the shots, the way I see myself acting in the shots something different e, sometimes I have this intuition na I can do this pala, na kaya ko pala.”

On his leading lady wish list:

“Of course Marian, check na ‘yun. Next to Marian siguro is Lovi Poe. I like how she works, ‘yung mga soaps niya, she’s a great actress, she’s a good person, siguro I want to venture my acting skills with her if possible.”

“Sa younger siguro si Barbie Forteza. She’s also a good actress, we all know naman, siguro mag-aadjust naman ‘yung chemistry namin together if mabigyan kami ng project. Siguro sila lang ‘yung mga nasa list ko on who I want to work with.”

In conjunction with the film, Alden appeared on the cover of Chalk Magazine heralding the actor’s courageous change of image:

Aside from “Cain and Abel,” Alden is also set to do another indie film with Maxene Magalona and LJ Reyes as his co-stars. And just like Jasmine Curtis-Smith, Coco Martin and Lovi Poe, the heartthrob joins the elite group of young actors who got the chance to work with the one and only Superstar, Nora Aunor. The project’s title is “Kinabukasan” and it’s a short film entry for this year’s Cinemalaya Film Festival which is also being helmed by Adolf Alix, Jr.

GMA Network has released the first publicity photos for its newest epicserye “Ilustrado” featuring Alden Richards as Jose Rizal.

“Ilustrado” is the highly-anticipated docudrama on GMA Network which is going to tackle the life of our national hero Dr. José Rizal, his early life as teenager and his first love. Rising Kapuso actor Alden Richards will play the titular role.

Joining Alden in the first drama series under GMA News and Public Affairs are Kylie Padilla and Solenn Heussaff. It is set to premiere this October under the network’s primetime block.

GMA Network is set to premiere its newest reality talent search show “Bet Ng Bayan” this Sunday, October 5, which aims to find the country’s extraordinary performing artists.

Hosted by no less than Asia’s Songbird Ms. Regine Velasquez-Alcasid and Kapuso Prime leading man Alden Richards, “Bet Ng Bayan” showcases exceptional Filipino talents in performing arts like dancing and singing, and extraordinary acts like acrobatics, magic, stunts, and more!

“Bet Ng Bayan” will definitely bring a new level of entertainment to Filipino viewers as it premieres this Sunday night (October 5) on GMA.

After their successful pairing in the teleserye “Carmela,” Marian Rivera and Alden Richards are said to be teaming up again in 2015 for the Philippine adaptation of the hit Korean drama series “My Love from the Star.”

“Endless Love: Autumn in My Heart,” “My Name is Kim Sam Soon,” “Temptation of Wife,” and “Coffee Prince” are some of the hit Korean drama series that were remade by GMA Network for Philippine television. And if there’s a foreign TV series that was shown this year worthy to have a Filipino version, it’s no other than GMA Network’s highest-rating Korean drama of 2014 – “My Love from the Star.”

Originally titled “You Who Came from Another Star,” the said fantasy romance drama from South Korea was a big hit in China, Malaysia, Vietnam, the Philippines and other countries as well. It starred Kim Soo-hyun and Jun Ji-hyun, who both won the Daesang (grand prize), the highest award for television, at the 2014 Korea Drama Awards and 2014 Baeksang Arts Awards respectively. They are the very first male and female lead to win the grand prize with a same drama.

With the success of the tagalized version of “My Love from the Star” which also trended on Twitter Philippines (and several times worldwide) every night during its airing, clamors from fans that GMA should do a Pinoy version of the series have been growing. And now, there are rumors that GMA Network is slated to produce a local version of “My Love from the Star” in 2015. And still, according to the grapevine, “Carmela” leads Marian Rivera and Alden Richards are being tapped by the network to star in the local version of the said Korean drama series.

Please take note that GMA Network is yet to release an official announcement about the local version of “My Love from the Star” but if ever that this report pushes through, are you in favor of Marian for the role of Steffi and Alden for the role of the handsome alien MatteoDo?

GMA Artist Center’s Prince of Primetime Alden Richards marked his 23rd birthday by taking part in a build-a-home project with Habitat for Humanity last January 12.

The event, which was hosted by Stephanie Sol and Arianne Bautista, was held in one of Habitat’s adopted community in Quezon City.

Alden, together with some 40 volunteers – or home partners as they are called, shoveled soil and facilitated its transfer. The soil will be used as fillers in preparation for the houses’ foundation.

After the activity, Alden had merienda with the volunteers and together with the hosts, gamely facilitated games for the kids. He also led the gift-giving to the attendees which made the event more memorable for them.

The event was made possible by GMA Artist Center, Fernando’s Bakeshop, Zagu, Kambal Pandesal, Mogu Mogu, Thai Tea, Boardwalk, and Monreo Biscuits.

For the first time ever, Asia’s Multimedia Star and Century Tuna Ambassador Alden Richards dived the seas of Anilao in Mabini, Batangas to join the Century Tuna Saving Our Seas initiative, an advocacy that highlights the importance of preserving the local marine biodiversity and plastic waste management in the country.

“I’m not going to scuba dive for leisure but I’m going to scuba dive to help protect the planet and to save our seas,” said Alden pointing out how important it is for celebrities like him to use their platform to influence and amplify the messages on pressing issues including plastic pollution, climate change and other environment concerns.

The Saving Our Seas program is an initiative of the local canned tuna brand, Century Tuna, that aims to raise awareness about the current challenges that we are facing because of plastic pollution that affects not only marine biodiversity but the human population as well. 

Century Tuna recognizes that the Philippines is part of the ‘Coral Triangle’ that is the center of the world’s marine biodiversity which is why the local tuna brand exerts efforts in addressing the ecological challenges that currently affects the Philippine seas.

Century Tuna, through Saving Our Seas, encourages people to join the fight against plastic pollution and become part of the solution to conserving the environment. In partnership with Aling Tindera Waste-to-Cash program by HOPE, an impact organization, communities can collect plastic wastes that they can exchange for an amount of money. The Saving Our Seas project reinforces the Plastic Circular Economy which diverts collected and recycled plastic away from nature.

Alden Richards also revealed that Century Tuna Saving Our Seas is his first environmental advocacy project and that this initiative opened his eyes to the impact of plastic pollution on the ecosystem.

The superstar said, “This is the first and it’s saddening that people still take waste management for granted. Way back, I used to think that throwing a piece of wrapper wouldn’t hurt but when I saw the reef, it made me ask myself what would happen if 10,000 people thought the same? I believe that change starts in you. If you want to see change, be the change you want to see because the things that we take for granted will make an impact on the future generations.”

Through the Saving Our Seas initiative, Century Tuna hopes to help strengthen the Plastic Circular Economy which entails that all plastics collected and recycled will not leak back into the open environment. In partnership with HOPE, the Saving Our Seas project aims to collect 10 metric tons of plastic this 2023.

“It’s really about the cause that made me say yes – a combination of scuba diving and reef cleaning.  I’ve never done that in this lifetime so I’m very honored. Thank you, Century Tuna for considering me to be a part of this,” said Alden.

Last June, Sparkle kicked off the festivities with a grand media conference featuring the brightest stars joining the world tour. Kathryn Bernardo and Alden Richards grace Metro’s latest digital cover together and speak about what “Hello, Love, Again,” the most anticipated Filipino film this year, means to them.The two stars marked their second Metro cover following their 2019 cover for their first movie “Hello, Love, Goodbye,” which ended on a bittersweet note for Joy (Kathryn) and Ethan’s (Alden).

In the cover story titled “What ‘Hello, Love, Again,’ means for Kathryn and Alden,” they teased the huge changes of their characters and how far they will go for love.

“I think the question right now is, ‘Hanggang saan mo ba kayang ipaglaban ’yung pagmamahal mo para sa ibang tao? At pagmamahal mo para sa iyong sarili?’” Alden told Metro.

“Ibang flavor siya ni Joy and Ethan. ’Pag iisipin mo, ’yung boy meets girl from ‘Hello, Love, Goodbye.’ And then, fast forward to ‘Hello, Love, Again’ why ‘again?’ Ano’ng nangyari sa life nila pareho? When we change, people grow, right? And just like Joy and Ethan, for sure, tumanda sila. And ang dami nilang natutunan sa ilang years na ’yun,” Kathryn added.

From being homegrown stars of their respective networks ABS-CBN and GMA, Kathryn and Alden were grateful for themselves for taking a leap of faith and believing in the film’s story of showcasing the efforts of overseas Filipino workers.

“Ang dami na rin kasing nagpapakita ng support nila as early as now. It fueled us. Especially nu’ng mga nahihirapan kami. So, your excitement and everything you feel right now, doble ’yung nafi-feel namin nu’n. Gawa ’to lahat sa puso. Kung ano ’yung mapapanood niyo, kung ano ’yung makikita niyo, we gave it our all,” said Kathryn.

“We wanted to tell another great story about this epic relationship that Joy and Ethan have that also highlights the OFWs… This story is not just for mga hopeless romantic or mahilig kiligin. This is a story about life,” Alden shared.
